Union Governance

The Alberni District Teachers’ Union (ADTU) is a member-led, democratic union guided by our Constitution and values. Our governance ensures decisions are transparent, accountable, and representative of our diverse membership across SD70 Pacific Rim.

Elected Executive. ADTU is led by an Executive elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Executive includes core officers (e.g., President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, Local Representative) and designated committee leads who help coordinate key portfolios.

Representative Assembly (RA). School-based Staff Representatives and Executive officers meet regularly as the RA to conduct union business, coordinate information between sites, and ensure member voices are heard in decision-making.

Committees. Standing and issue-focused committees, such as Local Bargaining, Professional Development, Social Justice, and Teachers Teaching on Call (TTOC), provide dedicated spaces for members to shape priorities, share expertise, and advance our collective work.

Sub-Local. In the Ucluelet–Tofino area, the Ucluelet-Tofino Teachers’ Union (UTTU) serves as our Sub-Local, ensuring strong local representation within the broader ADTU.

Get involved. Our governance works best when members participate. Consider attending an RA meeting, joining a committee, or connecting with your Executive to bring forward ideas and concerns.

To learn more about how the Alberni District Teachers’ Union operates, members are encouraged to review our Constitution the foundational document that outlines our structure, purpose, and democratic processes.
